Through multiple 360’s I’ve done these past few years, I’ve had many clients’ communication skills (or lack thereof) mean the difference between a team member trusting them or not. It can mean the difference between your boss or other decision-makers within the organization, choosing to put you to represent the company or not. Think about it. If you can’t instill credibility within your current team – how can they expect you to instill credibility with other potential stakeholders in a higher-stake context? They can’t, and they won’t.

How you communicate can either inspire OR create distance and disconnect between you and your co-workers. Ultimately, it can impact your level of professional success. Your communication skills can get you noticed for the right OR wrong reasons within your network, and therefore improve OR reduce your future career opportunities. While individuals can be highly technically skilled, if their communication skills aren’t dialed in, they can severely limit their professional (and personal) potential. • This course was designed for individuals trying to get an edge to stand out from other high potentials when vying for a promotion or their first leadership position. Working harder at doing the same as others is rarely enough to get you the new title. When technical skills are more or less equal amongst candidates, what will give you the edge is what we call “Executive Presence”. Executive presence simply refers to that vibe you give off, if you will, as you walk into the room. It says that you are confident, you know what you’re doing, and you know how to concisely communicate what you know, and you dress the part. In other words, you command the room you walk into. You exude a “leadership” energy. Now, the good news is, you don’t have to be a leader to show up like one. In fact, if you are hoping to one day get promoted to a leadership position, it’s best to get started on working on your leadership presence now, so that people see you as one and therefore you become an obvious candidate to decision-makers you work with. In this “Stand out from the rest series”, we will dissect how to improve on “how to be” as a leader so that people perceive you as one, and therefore will be more likely to place you in a leadership position. In this series, we will layer a stakeholder-inspired approach to find out exactly which habits of yours could use some tweaking to be perceived as a more effective leader. And in this particular course, we will specifically address your communication habits. With the help and support of some of your contacts, you will create a simple, customized professional development plan to help you make the most impact on your workplace performance.
