Welcome to How to Create Performance Measures: A Guide for Managers and Business Owners.

The purpose of this course is to offer a practical method for creating performance measures for your organisation. It is specifically aimed at small and medium sized enterprises, but the general principles and method apply to organisations of all sizes.

The key to effective performance measures is a clear vision with performance measures that show progress towards it. In my view, keeping it simple with a clear line of sight from the activities of the business to the vision of the organisation are critical to success. The course, therefore, builds on the firm foundations offered by a clear and engaging vision to develop a network of performance measures throughout the organisation that show progress towards that vision.

The aim of the course is to offer a practical step-by-step guide to creating performance measures rather than cover theoretical concepts and models. The models and concepts in performance measurement are covered in our other courses on Performance Measurement and Business Performance Management

The course lays out a pathway for creating performance measures for organisations of all types. The topics covered include the characteristics of good performance measures; how to develop a Vision Statement for your Organisation; creating Process Output and In-Process measures; and performance measures for a Not-for-Profit organisation.
